In 1964 Count Rodolphe van de Straten Ponthoz began the VDS team. This young, family-run team would slowly garner success in all 4 corners of the world. With Mini Cooper at the beginning, then with Alfa Romeo, McLaren, Chevron, Lola and Penske. Many talented drivers drove for VDS Team enabling it to win 2 F5000 British titles and one F5000 Tasman title on its way to the pinnacle of its success, the CanAm title with a car of its own design, the VDS001.
