The book about the legendary Porsche 911 F-Series from model years 1965 to 1973

As the successor to the Porsche 356, the Nine-Eleven went into series production starting with the 1965 model year. To this day, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s design of the original 911 is considered a once-in-a-century achievement in automotive design. The base engine of the new Porsche started at the highest performance level ever offered in its predecessor, the 356: 130 hp propelled the new Porsche 911 to a top speed of 210 km/h — figures from another world at the time.

For those who wanted even more speed, the 911 S became available starting in the 1967 model year. With 160 hp, this 911 “Sport” reached 225 km/h and, for the first time, featured forged Fuchs light-alloy wheels. The early 911 S, with its short wheelbase, beautiful original 4.5 x 15-inch Fuchs rims, and timeless design, represents a pinnacle of Porsche engineering from the golden age of sports cars.

The Porsche 911 Targa, “the world’s first safety cabriolet,” was presented to the public for the first time in September 1965 at the Frankfurt IAA. With a fixed roll bar, a removable folding roof, and a fold-down rear window, the newly developed Targa concept was Porsche’s answer to the increasing safety demands of its American customers. However, series production took more than a year to begin, starting only after the factory summer break in 1966 with the 1967 model year.

“Only 500 men will drive it” — with this slogan, Porsche advertised its new flagship model in 1972, which would go down in history under the name Carrera RS. The first 911 RS overshadowed everything that had come before. It accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and reached a then-incredible top speed of 245 km/h. To this day, the first 911 to feature both a front and rear spoiler as standard is a true legend. With the Carrera RS, the F-Series reached its peak.

On its 60th anniversary, the time has come to tell the story of the F-Series and let the key figures behind its development have their say.
