24 Stunden Nürburgring Nordschleife 2012

Thirty lead changes, four brands that took turns in the lead, a maiden victory for Audi, action-packed opening stages and a thrilling finale - the Int. ADAC Zurich 24h race, the world's biggest motorsport event, had all it needed for a suitable celebration of its 40th anniversary.

For the first time in history of the endurance classic in the Eifel, an Audi won the race outright, and that pleased everyone from the Ingolstadt brand. With the Z4, BMW had the fastest car in the field, but had technical problems, as did the Mercedes SLS teams. Porsche's spearhead team Manthey Racing lost all its chances in various accidents. The N.Technology P4/5, based on a Ferrari chassis, created a world first; the retro-style car became the first hybrid car worldwide to finish a 24h race, and classified twelfth overall, no less!

Some of the fans had were on site since the previous weekend and once again turned the Eifel region into the world's biggest campsite. And next to the 24h race as such, the 235,000 spectators got to see a lot more: a fan festival, a drift challenge, fireworks, support races and a show programme.
