The book covers the incredible life story of one of the most colourful characters in the racing world. As a kid, Toine travelled the world with his father Thieu (who raced a Porsche 550 Spyder and a Trenkel) before emerging as one of the best karting drivers of his generation in the Sixties. He duly became a works driver for Abarth, Alfa Romeo, BMW and Ford, his success including wins in the European Touring Car Championship, the Targa Florio and the Spa 24 Hours. Joining Gelo Racing Team, Toine’s success continued from the Nürburgring to Daytona.
All the while, he excelled in trading anything from exotic cars and diamonds to aeroplanes, boats and real estate. He also entered Formula One, built his own F5000 and DRM cars and for years dominated the karting world with the Hezemans-Rotax engines. With Lotus and Bitter, Toine entered the GT1 scene, which he then conquered with Vipers and Corvettes. Now 78, he has just started a new adventure in NASCAR!
“Toine Hezemans” is a rollercoaster ride through an amazing life, full of crazy stories, hilarious adventures and unique characters. Written by Toine and composed by Mark Koense (the author of Grand Prix Zandvoort, Gijs van Lennep and Jan Lammers), the book features close to 600 mostly never seen before pictures (many from the Hezemans family archives) and depicts not only one man’s remarkable life, but also a unique period in racing history.
